St. Matthew’s-in-the-Glebe is home to both a choir of Men and Boys and a choir of Women and Girls. In 2007, the Men and Boys’ choir celebrated its 50th anniversary. Over the years, hundreds of boys have benefited from the musical training at St Matthew’s and some have gone on to professional careers in music.
As one of only two choirs of its kind in Canada, St Matthew’s Men and Boys’ choir continues to exemplify the centuries old English Cathedral music tradition. The Women and Girls’ choir was formed in 1990. Both choirs combine to sing for major feast days and present annually two performances of Messiah in November. With over eighty singers in the combined choirs, St Matthew’s music programme is one of the largest and most dynamic in the country. They continue to welcome new singers who are interested in joining their ranks.
Kirkland Adsett has been the Director of Music at St. Matthew’s since January 2011.
