2026 Ottawa Distinguished Women
By Michèle Lanoue
Carol Ann MacKay, President of the Ottawa Women’s Canadian Club (OWCC), has been recognized as one of the 2026 Ottawa Distinguished Women (April 16, 2026) for her exceptional leadership, dedication to community service, and commitment to advancing opportunities for women and students in Ottawa.
Since joining the OWCC in 2017, Carol has played an instrumental role in revitalizing and strengthening the historic organization. Beginning as Chair of Students, then serving as Chair of Membership and Sponsorship, she later stepped into the role of President during one of the club’s most challenging periods following the pandemic.
Under her leadership, the OWCC successfully transitioned to a new home at the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club while continuing its long-standing tradition of education advocacy, public engagement, and community support.
Carol’s passion for empowering women and fostering lifelong learning has helped the OWCC continue funding scholarships and bursaries for students at Queen’s University, Carleton University, the University of Ottawa, and Algonquin College.
Through her vision, the club has also expanded its community outreach initiatives, including support for Dress for Success, Food Bank fundraising efforts, entrepreneur pop-up events, cultural tours, and renewed participation in Remembrance Day commemorations.
With a rich and varied background that includes nursing, aviation, business ownership, volunteer leadership, and community service, Carol brings warmth, resilience, and creativity to everything she does. Her dedication to preserving the 116-year legacy of the OWCC while modernizing and growing the organization has made a lasting impact on both its members and the wider Ottawa community.
